Season 1974-1975

Arniston Rangers started the season quite well with a 1 - 1 draw against Musselburgh Athletic in a game Arniston should have won easily, but could not finish. Another good display followed, beating Grangemouth 3 - 0 in the Drybrough East Region Cup. Arniston team - Ferguson, Hume, McAlpine, Laurie, Wight, Gilmour, Cassidy, Wade, Forrest, Crease, Halliday. (Subs.) Scott and N. Wilson. Arniston scorers - Wade 2, Crease.

November saw another good win, beating "wait for it" Rothes Decimals by 4 goals to 0. Arniston scorers - Crease 3, Halliday. Lack of consistency followed for Arniston during the rest of the season; with good wins over Dalkeith Thistle, 1 - 0 at Arniston in the league, 2 - 1 over Bonnybridge Juniors in the Fife & Lothians Cup, and a 2 - 1 win over Tranent Juniors in the St. Michael Cup, 3rd round in a bad tempered match, McAlpine of Arniston and Smith of Tranent ordered off.

List of defeats must make bad reading, but a lot could be put down to bad finishing and defensive errors. We start with a 2 - 0 defeat by Bonnyrigg Rose in the Brown Cup, a bad 1 - 0 defeat against Cumbernauld in the Scottish Junior Cup where a defensive blunder cost Arniston the tie. A 1 - 0 defeat by Dalkeith Thistle in the league at Arniston, 2 - 0 defeat by Bonnyrigg Rose in the semi-final of the St. Michael Cup, 2 - 0 defeat by Clackmannan in the Fife & Lothians Cup at Clackmannan and a 1 - 0 defeat by Newtongrange Star at Newtongrange in the Drybrough Cup, East Region Cup replay after a 0 - 0 draw at Arniston where Arniston dominated most of the match but could not take their chances.

Season ends with the same old story, if only Arniston could put away the chances they create and make less defensive blunders, but alas, it's the same story for the rest of the league.

Arniston team - Gryckyke, Hume, Gilmour, Laurie, Montgomery, Blyth, Nichol, Cassidy, Crease, Wade, Waddell. (Subs.) Quinn, McGovern.
