Season 1972-1973
Arniston started season well with two wins. An excellent 7 - 0 win over Tranent Juniors at Arniston where Carruthers scored 3, Gibson 2, Fleming and Aitchison, the other a 2 - 1 win over Newtongrange Star at Victoria Park, Newtongrange, Arniston scorers - Carruthers, Aitchison. The end of November 1972 saw a great display by Arniston beating Irvine Victoria by 5 goals to 0 in the Scottish Junior Cup, 3rd round. Arniston scorers - Flynn 2, McManus, Carruthers, Crease. December saw Arniston beating Sauchie Juniors 3 - 1 at Sauchie in the Brown Cup, and beating Dalkeith Thistle 4 - 1 in the league at Dalkeith, Arniston scorers - Crease 2, Flynn, Carnegie. Arniston still unbeaten in the league.
January 1973 saw Arniston take their exit from the Scottish Junior Cup, losing 3 - 0 to Johnstone Burgh at Arniston. It is hard to put into words what happened to Arniston in the rest of the season, but the team that played in the first half of the season so well, just 'lost it' in the second half. They still enjoyed the odd win, such as an excellent win over Tranent Juniors, 3 - 1 in the Fife & Lothians Cup, and the narrow 1 - 0 win over Newtongrange Star, but the 'charisma' surrounding the Club had gone, after the 2 - 1 defeat by Penicuik Athletic and the end of a two year unbeaten league record at home.

JUNIORS OUTCLASSED BY RANGERS
Arniston Rangers 7 Tranent Juniors 0 League Champions Arniston Rangers, by a devasting second-half display, completely eclipsed the Juniors of Tranent. The first period was evenly contested with both defences mainly on top. Arniston went ahead when keeper McNulty was forced to palm a shot against the crossbar and Carruthers had no difficulty in heading home on the rebound. Tranent tried hard to level, but despite their pressure, found no loophole in the stout Rangers' defence. A minute from the interval Arniston increased the lead, Ritchie netting with a brilliant drive. After the break the Rangers ran riot and goals came rapidly from Gibson twice, Fleming, Aitchison and Carruthers, to overwhelm the East Lothian side, who despite the avalanche, never gave up attempts to improve their hopeless position. Arniston Rangers - McDonald, Bannon, Roseburgh, Carnegie, Devlin, Aitchison, Gibson, Fleming, Carruthers, Watson, Ritchie. Subs., Buckley and Bremner. Tranent Juniors - McNulty, Park, Turner, McLean, Pryde, Knox, Noble, Gordon, Lee, O'Connor, Adger. Subs., Robertson and Livingston. Referee: Mr. B. Latto, Edinburgh.
