ARNISTON SCORE CUP SUCCESS
Arniston Rangers 3 Johnstone Burgh 2 Arniston Rangers deservedly entered the third round of the Scottish Junior Cup by the odd goal in five, but the one-goal margin did not emphasise the undoubted superiority of the Rangers long spells of sustained pressure. The Burgh goalkeeper, McWilliams, was in inspired form, repeatedly bringing off fantastic saves. In the opening stages play was evenly contested, but gradually the Rangers took command and the Burgh defence, in which McWilliams and Henderson were particularly prominent, were hemmed into their own half. Dunlop broke through but miskicked with only McWilliams to beat, a let-off for the visitors. Then McWilliams brilliantly tipped over a fine Gibson shot, and the resultant corner kick was luckily cleared by the keeper at the second attempt. Shortly afterwards, Aitchison boring on the goal was beaten by force of numbers, and two Guthrie drives were brilliantly held by McWilliams. Entirely against the run of play, the Burgh in one of their few raids, went ahead through McDonald. Undaunted by this shock goal the Rangers redoubled their efforts, and were rewarded after Guthrie had twice tested McWilliams, when Gibson, with a snap drive, beat the Burgh keeper all ends up. Three minutes later Dunlop brought joy to the Rangers supporters when he blasted an unsaveable shot past the helpless McWilliams. The Burgh showed improvement on resuming, but McDonald, the Rangers keeper, was never seriously troubled. The issue was practically settled when McWilliams made his only lapse, dropping a Grant free kick, and Guthrie lying handy easily netted. Near the close Scott and McDonald of Burgh, and Gibson of Rangeers were booked by the referee. In a Burgh attack Boylan reduced the leeway but never looked like saving the tie. The Rangers have thrice beaten the Burgh in recent seasons in the national tournament. Arniston Rangers - McDonald, Bannon, Carnegie, Grant, Devlin, Ovenstone, Gibson, Guthrie, Dunlop, Aitchison, Falconer. Sub., Seaton. Johnstone Burgh - McWilliams, McCafferty, Scott, McGraw, Henderson, House, Glasgow, Douglas, McDonald, Hendrie, Boylan. Sub., Thorburn. Referee - Mr. J. McGonnagle, Glasgow.

BROWN CUP FOR ARNISTON RANGERS?
Arniston Rangers 5 Camelon Juniors 1 Arniston Rangers landed this season's first Trophy in the East Region's cup competition by gaining custody of the East's major Trophy the East of Scotland Junior Cup, when they trounced the Juniors of Camelon at Meadowbank Sports Centre before 1500 spectators. This was the first venture by the East Region F.A. in playing a final at the new Edinburgh Stadium, and as a result of its success it is probable that the St. Michael's Cup final will also be staged at the same venue. Play in the opening stages was evenly contested with the respective goalkeepers rarely seriously troubled. The offside tactics of the Stirlingshire side were repeatedly halting the Rangers attacks. After thirty five minutes however, they were badly caught in their own trap when Aitchison collected in the open and strode forward to slam the ball past a helpless Davidson as the Camelon defence apparently expected another off-side decision. Three minutes from half-time he again scored from a penalty conversion. On resuming Arniston took full command, and fine distribution by their mid-line kept the Rangers forwards well plied with the ball. Guthrie raised the Rangers total to four, with two goals in a five minutes pressure spell. Camelon were now a well-beaten side, and it occasioned no surprise when Falconer netted a fifth Rangers goal. In the closing stages McWatt netted a Camelon consolation goal. A repeat performance could gain the Rangers a Brown Cup final success over Broxburn Athletic.
