Season 1965-1966
Arniston started the season badly, losing 5 - 1 to Haddington Athletic at home and 6 - 2 to Preston Athletic again at home, both games in the league. Not much to report about the rest of the season, Arniston performing well some weeks and not so well the others.
Some wins and defeats worth noting, starting with the wins. A good 3 - 1 win over the mighty Bonnyrigg Rose, 4 - 2 win in the East of Scotland Cup over Preston Athletic, 3 - 2 win over Dunbar United, Arniston scorers - Mair, Davidson, Robertson. A 4 - 2 win over Sauchie Juniors, Arniston scorers - Hadden 2, Colbert, McEwan, 2 - 1 win over Dunbar United at Dunbar, Arniston scorers - Mair, Duncan. We will not dwell on the defeats, but the worst was the 7 - 1 defeat by Bonnyrigg Rose in the League Cup and 4 - 1 defeat by Sauchie Juniors in the St. Michael Cup at Sauchie.
Topic of Interest - April, 1966 - Before the start of the Arniston Rangers v Tranent Juniors game a minute's silence was observed for James Ramage, a life member who died earlier this week.
13.1.66 - A massive 12 - 1 win over Armadale Thistle in the St. Michael Cup, where Hadden scored a double hat-trick.

RANGERS AND STAR WILL MEET AGAIN
Arniston Rangers .............3 Newtongrange Star...........3 The second round East of Scotland Junior Cup-Tie at Gorebridge between Arniston Rangers and Newtongrange Star provided a hard encounter in which both sides missed easy scoring chances. A draw did neither side an injustice. After a spell of midfield play by Newtongrange, a Fraser drive was inches high. Arniston pressed strongly and the Star goal ran a scare when only a T. Brown goal line clearance prevented a certain goal. At the other end a series of fruitless corners were conceded by the hard pressed Rangers defence, while Kennedy was tested by Fraser and a Duncan effort carried narrowly over. The Star went ahead when Combe from a right wing cross, fired an unsaveable shot. The Rangers' defence were heavily assailed for a spell with Kennedy frequently in action, but several corners which were unproductive was the Star's only reward. Arniston struck back strongly and Rennie, T. Brown and Kidd interventions halted dangerous raids. The pressure eventually told - McLeod gliding a Gillespie cross past G. Brown for a deserved equaliser. Star regained the lead when Greenan accepted a forward pass to round a couple of Rangers' defenders, and walking the ball into the net. Near half-time Arniston redoubled their efforts and were rewarded when following a corner kick, Gillespie gained an equaliser. Shortly after the resumption, Arniston went ahead for the first time with a well-taken Stewart goal. The Star continued to be dangerous and it was no surprise when Greenan snatched the equaliser. Rutherford of the Rangers sustained a leg injury, Ronaldson coming on as substitute. In the closing stages, McLeod for Arniston missed a sitter and Greenan for the Star had hard luck in failing to complete his hat-trick. Teams: Arniston Rangers: Kennedy; Nicol, Kirk; Rutherford, Devlin, Keith; Bertram, McKenna, Gillespie, Stewart, McLeod; substitute, Ronaldson Newtongrange Star: G. Brown; T. Brown, Kidd; Thomson, Rennie, Anderson; Duncan, Fraser, Greenan, Fordyce, Combe; substitute, Dickson. Referee: Mr. G. Preston, Edinburgh.
