Season 1951-1952

A visit to Newtongrange started the 'Rangers' season and ended in a 2 - 2 draw. Attendance - 2,500. Season continued with a 3 - 2 win over Bonnyrigg Rose in the league and then Arniston came a cropper in the Scottish Junior Cup, losing heavily to Broxburn Athletic, 5 - 2 at Broxburn, after gaining a draw at Arniston. After the disaster of the 'Scottish' Arniston recovered well and had their share of wins, notably a 3 - 1 win over Tranent Juniors in the semi-final of the East of Scotland Cup, 7 - 1 win over Dunbar United in the Supplementary League, where Quigley scored 6 goals.

Season finished with Arniston losing 2 - 0 in the final of the East of Scotland Cup against Bo'ness United.

A GOOD YEAR FOR ARNISTON

There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Arniston Rangers F.C. held last week. In his secretarial report, Mr. John Marshall stated that the club, although out of the national competition, were in the semi-final of the East of Scotland Junior Cup, and still interested in the Thornton Shield Competition.

They are the league leaders in the Edinburgh & District League competition. Their playing strength was twenty four players. The leading goal-scorers were Quigley 23, Spence 11 and Strachan, who had played in only six games and had netted nine goals.

The financial report showed a substantial credit balance.

The chairman, Mr. B. Hamilton, gave a brief report on ground improvements which had been accomplished during the past year. Negotiations were proceeding satisfactorily for the erection of a shelter, and it was hoped that work on this important scheme would be commenced at an early date.

In recognition of his long service to the Club, Mr. William Weir was elected a life member of the Club.
