Arniston Rangers began the season in a manner, that with the second world war looming, they had already lost the enthusiasm for the game. Arniston started in August, 1939 and lost five games in a row. 4 - 2 to Bonnyrigg Rose, 4 - 1 to Newtongrange Star, 7 - 2 to Ormiston Primrose, 8 - 1 to Armadale Thistle and 2 - 1 to Bo'ness Cadora.
Before Arniston Rangers stopped for the duration of the second world war, they had two good wins in the Scottish Junior Cup, beating Kelty Our Boys in the first round and a 5 - 2 win over Thornton Hibs in the next round.
