Season 1937-1938
A poor start for Arniston, losing four games in a row, 5 - 3 against Niddrie Thistle, 4 - 3 against Portobello Renton, 5 - 3 against Stoneyburn Juniors and against Bonnyrigg Rose, 3 - 1. Rest of the season was an up and down affair having good wins and bad defeats. Notable wins included a 6 - 1 win over Bonnyrigg Rose, 2 - 0 over Kelty Our Boys in the Fife & Lothians Cup, 4 - 1 against Stoneyburn Juniors in the St. Michael Cup, 3- 2 win over Rosslyn Juniors in the Fife & Lothians Cup, and last but not least, the winning of the Fife & Lothians Cup with a great 6 - 4 victory in the final over Blairhall Colliery at Central Park, Cowdenbeath, which compensated for the other part of the season with the un-mentioned defeats.

| Arniston Rangers v
Blairhall Colliery - Arniston Rangers figured in the final of the Fife
& Lothians Cup competition, with Blairhall Colliery at Central Park,
Cowdenbeath, on Saturday. Blairhall took the lead in the early minutes
when Thomson netted from close range. The Fife side continued to do
well, and were soon two up, the scorer being McMillan following a clever
run by McDonald. Cummings got Arniston on the move, but the Fife men
cleared and a third goal was scored by McMillan. The Rangers afterwards
did better, and from a cross by McLeod, Cummings reduced the leeway.
Blairhall again pressed and Cummings scored. Towards the interval the
pressure came from Arniston, and Cummings again found the net. At
half-time Blairhall were leading by 4 goals to 2. Five minutes after the
restart Wotherspoon scored for the Rangers, and with a great drive Pryde
equalised. Within a few minutes Pryde again scored to put Arniston in
the lead. Arniston continued to play well, and when Beatson got another
goal the issue was put beyond doubt.
Result: Arniston Rangers 6; Blairhall Colliery 4. |
