Season 1928-1929

The season started badly for Arniston losing 4 - 1 to Rosewell Rosedale, and 2 - 0 to Penicuik Juniors. A run of victories followed with a run of defeats, a usual "mode" of the Arniston Rangers at that time. Notable victories, a 7 - 2 win over Rosewell Rosedale, gaining revenge for an early defeat at the start of the season, 4 - 1 defeat of Wemyss Athletic and a massive 9 - 1 win over Portobello Thistle in the East of Scotland Cup with Waterson scoring 5. The losses started with Musselburgh Bruntonians in the league, 3 - 2 in September and apart from the Portobello blitz, Arniston did not win a game for the rest of 1928, losing to Newtongrange Star 4 - 1, Dalkeith Thistle 4 - 0, Portobello Thistle the team they had beaten 9 - 1 a month before, 4 - 2, Dunbar United, 4 - 1, Musselburgh Bruntonians 2 - 1, Armadale Thistle 6 - 1, Wallyford Bluebell 5 - 2, Tranent Juniors 4 - 1 and Bonnyrigg Rose 5 - 2.
