PREFACE

There is some doubt about the beginning of the Club. It was reported in the Evening News of 1971 that the Club was formed in 1878 by two brothers called McGrady. It is understood that at that time the Club was a colliery team. It was not until October 1883 that Arniston Rangers played their first competitive match. It is also a known fact that the Club went defunct in 1885-1890 and 1929-33.

The first park was Greenhall Park believed to be near Gowkshill. The second park was first played on in 1890 and was used until after the second World War when it was swallowed up by housing needs. It is a credit to the Committee and Supporters of the late forties that through their endeavours they built the present stadium, Newbyres Park.

Over the past 100 years Arniston Rangers have had a great deal of success in junior football. Unfortunately, in recent years we have not had the success I believe the hard working Committee deserve. We hope that in the near future Arniston Rangers will again be among the honours and hopefully win back the Supporters.
