Season 1911 - 12

I was swept away on the enthusiasm that must have been felt with the Arniston scoring feats last season, so I will be more clinical in the future seasons.

Season started with a resounding 4 - 1 win over the 'Rose' from Bonnyrigg, and a run of league wins followed, over Wemyss Athletic, Penicuik Juniors and Kinleith Thistle, the 'double' was attained with a 3 - 0 win in the East of Scotland Cup, and a visit to Prestonpans gave Arniston another 'double' this time over Wemyss Athletic. Cup business followed and a 1 - 1 draw was achieved at Tranent in the Scottish Junior Cup 1st round, a 3 - 2 win over Granton Gasworks followed in the Musselburgh Cup. A visit to Wallyford saw Arniston take their exit from the Dalmeny Cup against the 'Thistle' by 2 - 0. Arniston must have won the replay against Tranent Juniors, as we find they enjoyed a 3 - 2 win over Niddrie Bluebell in the 3rd round of the Scottish Junior Cup.

1911 ended for Arniston with a 9 - 2 win over Kinleith Thistle at Juniper Green, a lapse against Musselburgh and a successful 'foray' in the Musselburgh Cup, beating Granton Gasworks 4 - 2 in the first round and the following week winning 3 - 1 against Wemyss Athletic. After another string of victories over Tranent Juniors, Newtongrange Star, Rosewell Rosedale, Penicuik Juniors, Arniston suffered a 3 - 0 defeat at Galashiels against Fairydean. More victories followed over Tranent, Musselburgh and Bonnyrigg, leading up to the latter end of the season.

April, 1912 saw the beginning of a flurry of cup ties for Arniston. Arniston took their exit in the semi-final of the Simpson Shield, going down 2 - 1 to Musselburgh Athletic. Revenge was attained in the Marshall Cup the following week by Arniston beating Musselburgh Athletic 5 - 0, and two weeks later a 1 - 0 win over Newtongrange Star took them into the final, which alas resulted in a 1 - 0 defeat against Wemyss Athletic at Olive Bank, Musselburgh.

Season ended with Arniston winning the Musselburgh Cup beating Newtongrange Star in the Final by 3 - 1 at Dundas Park, Bonnyrigg. The gate amounted to £24, giving an attendance of about 1500.

Arniston Rangers v Kinleith Thistle - These teams met at Juniper Green on Saturday in a Mid-Lothian League Match. The opening play favoured Arniston, who scored through their centre, Albert. Play ran in favour of the Rangers, and from a corner Smith added a second goal. The opposition of the Thistle was very weak, and the Rangers did practically what they liked. Philips scored a third goal, the ball glancing off a Thistle defender into the net. The homesters had a breakaway, and McIntyre beat Gardiner with a good shot. The relief was only temporary for the Thistle, and they were soon defending again. Albert scored a fourth goal for the Rangers, and a minute later Brown added a fifth. Half-time Arniston, 5 goals; Thistle 1. The Thistle re-opened in promising fashion, and from a scrimmage near the goalmouth, Allison scored a second goal for Kinleith. Following some midfield play, Black added a sixth goal for the Rangers, Smith the seventh, Philips the eighth, while Albert completed the "hat trick" by scoring a ninth goal. The game was very one-sided, and turned out a hollow victory for Arniston. Result - Arniston Rangers 9 goals; Kinleith Thistle, 2.
