| Arniston hosted Rosyth at their temporary home Olive Bank in a Fife and Lothians Cup match on a sunny but bitterly cold winter day. | |
| This game was played on a bright sunny but very cold day with the pitch in excellent condition despite the torrential rain of yesterday. Arniston started off on similar lines to last week and with a few reserves on the bench began in a confident manner. The first incident of note came after 5 minutes play when the visiting number 7 clattered Tadg to the ground and received only a warning from the ref. The resulting free was cleared and Rosyth worked their way up park and won two corners in succession, one left the other right both of which were dealt comfortably by the home defence. Arniston then did similar at the other end, the second being driven just past by Grant McNicoll .Wayne McIntosh then had a go but was well clear of the target. Kyle Howitt forced another corner which was headed over. Arniston were dominating and a foul for them on the edge of the box was allowed to go on, the Ref giving advantage, but when another foul occurred inside the box, he gave a free kick where the first infringement had taken place. A strange decision. The Arniston defence and midfield were dominant with their forwards lively, it appeared only time before a break thru came. A great shot from Kyle was brilliantly tipped over by the visiting keeper. The score was only delayed and again winning corner right then left the ball was finally touched over the line by number 10 Howitt. The time 25 minutes. This was followed about ten minutes later by another. This time a good move started from defence right.Callum Martin, Mark Stevenson, Grant McNicoll all involved in the move finalising in a great lob with again Kyle Howitt credited with the last touch. Rosyth were showing good touches in mid field but could make nothing of a resolute Arnie defence. Wayne had a good effort blocked and Scott Lucas shot just over. Mark Stevenson got his name in the book for an involvement with a visiting player when walking away was the sensible option. The half ended with Arniston thoroughly earning their lead. HALF TIME ARNISTON TWO ROSYTH NIL The second half started with Rosyth taking the game to Arnie and for the first time forcing the home defence back. Their midfield and their number 11 in particular showing more aggression. Stewart in the home goal had a worrying moment when from a crossed ball his weak punch was returned goalwards only to see it hit the cross bar and over to safety. Although more in the game this was about the last real effort Rosyth could muster and Arniston again began to dominate with the defence solid and pushing forward helping in attack. With 60 minutes played Mark hit a good effort just wide. Another cross from lively Callum was headed in for the keeper to make a smart save. Manager Brian then sent on two subs. Jay Darling and David Morris for Scott Lucas and Wayne McIntosh .Both subs contributing to the game. Jay Darling having the ball in the net only to be ruled offside. The third and final goal came from a free kick on the left wing 30 yards out. The ball was hit hard and low across the goal mouth and seemed to deceive all, finishing in the back of the net. FULL TIME. ARNISTON THREE ROSYTH NIL A very convincing display following on from last week’s. With our lads seeming to be relishing the game, working hard for each other and enjoying themselves. UNTIL NEXT WEEK BALLINGRY ROVERS AWAY |
